What are Oxygen OS 11 | ONEPLUS WILL ADD NEW FANS-SUGGESTED FEATURES TO OXYGEN OS

 Over the past few years, OnePlus has become a major player in android space. Company wanted to ensure customers thoughts and expectations are reached to them so they planned to create an IDEAS campaign. Concept is simple we have to submit our idea and if their OS team likes it they will analyse and top features will be implemented to latest Oxygen OS. First-round was launched in March this year and customers expressed their wishes by logging in to their OnePlus Community account. Also, they stated that the company mostly invites open ideas on software but not on hardware.

This campaign lasted till Nov 6 and the selection process carried every two weeks. After each round top 5 ideas are selected based on the likes from peers and other community members. OnePlus team also discussed and reviewed on the top ideas. At the first stage, more than 5000 ideas were submitted with over 25000 likes and more than 2000 comments. From these 5 features were selected and those were brought over to Oxygen OS over the last few months. Later company announced IDEAS 2.0 in September in which 7300 ideas from 5427 active users were received. This is much more successful with increased number of likes and comments along with better suggestions. Then OnePlus picked 7 new features from these that will soon be implemented in Oxygen OS.

The 7 ideas include :

  • FPS counter option to Game Space
  • Separate volume for each app and allowing dual media playback
  • Lockscreen customisation
  • Wireless transfer of files from OnePlus device to PC and vice versa.
  • Power diet ( aggressive battery saving mode )
  • Able to choose between grey and black in dark mode
  • Partial screenshot

The first feature of this list includes frames per second (FPS) counter in Game Space. This will let users to look at frame rate while the game is running over the phone. OnePlus replied to this by saying that they have been working on this for some time and would be able to ready in a future system update.

In addition to this, they are also planning to introduce separate volume levels for each app similar to Samsung One UI but initially, it plans to separate volume control for media and notifications.

They also agreed on implementing lock screen customisations claiming that they have been working on the possibility of customising components like AOD and lock screen. Also stated it takes much time to get done.

Another suggestion is about wireless transfer from PC to phone and vice versa and told the solution is ready, however, they didn’t share the release timeline yet.

Similarly optimised dark mode in which shades of dark mode exists and features enabling partial screenshots were already in consideration but no release date yet.

Coming to the Power diet idea that would allow users to store some battery in reserve in cases when charging isn’t possible. Even the company felt that this is necessary to implement stating that they will ensure in doing their best to prioritise battery life with long-lasting battery.

With all these 7 features to be considered OnePlus also shared some features that are not going to be added to Oxygen OS anytime now.

  • Hole punch camera mode
  • Working with social media companies for camera optimization
  • Notification ring
  • iOS 14 backup gestures
  • Pixel shifting
  • Customizable battery charge
  • Fingerprint customisation
  • Notification count on icons
  • Navigation bar customizations

Some of these features were rejected due to potential screen burn-in issues. However, desktop mode was rejected because there isn’t a valid input from the community. Similar feature to customisable battery charge like Optimised charging is adopted already thus this is rejected. Back tap gestures was dropped sure to potential accidental touch issues.
However, OnePlus didn’t reveal a timeline for any of these features to be implemented in Oxygen OS.
